Seattle based label who played a crucial part in spreading grunge music around the world in the early nineties. Sub Pop signed bands they believed in, like Nirvana and Mudhoney, to reap dividends.
Started life as a student magazine dedicated to independent record labels. The label actively sought to create a distinctive sound linked to Seattle by hiring producer Jack Endino to work in house. In their formative years, Endino's production techniques would make Sub Pop releases easily identifiable which helped to build their brand.
