Details
  • Popularised by the 2011 film Drive.
  • The soundtrack for Drive brought the genre of synthwave to mainstream attention. The genre exploded in popularity and soon enough everyone was making synthwave. Or so it felt. According to Rate Your Music there were 77 synthwave releases in 2011 and just three years later in 2014 there were 941. A 1122% increase.
  • The lyrics were written by label founder and band member Johnny Jewel.
  • Has a spoken word section with a valley girl twang.
  • The song calls to mind an infatuated teenager obsessing over a crush but it also has a nostalgic quality. The valley girlesque section from the bridge is reminiscent of the eighties and recalls a bygone time. People don't really talk like that anymore. The same sense of retro is found on many Italians Do It Better releases.
