• Leon Bridges likes to sing about women and nature. Here he compares the hair of Lisa Sawyer to the Louisiana sun and later he would sing about the Texas sun. On the EP Texas Moon he would sing of Mariella, who had hair "pitch black like the midnight sky." Leon has a tendency to compare the people in his songs with the environment they inhabit as if the people are a part of nature itself. His songs therefore have a primal, soulful feel to them as opposed to the intellectualisation you find in genres such as art pop.
  
  The emotions Bridges expresses are the big ones. The ones worthy of song. All of our emotions are important but some are more important than others. If you take away emotions such as love then we cease to be human and in this way Bridges' music is a true expression of soul because it connects with our most essential feelings that transcend the limitations of our physical form and are found in nature itself.
