• 'Masterpiece' is about a woman who is hopelessly in love with a non-commital man. It's unclear if the song is autobiographical. 
  
  
• 'Masterpiece'  takes a minimal approach to music featuring only a bass, drums, vocals and backing vocals. Such a composition allows each instrument to occupy a prominent space in the mix so they can all be heard clearly. For me, despite featuring interesting vocals, the lead instrument is the bass. It features throughout the entire song as a meditative constant, playing for long stretches at the end after the vocals have dropped out.
