Details
  • Snow Strippers are a duo comprised of singer Tatiana Shwaninger and producer Graham Perez. Shwaninger joined the band despite having no experience as a singer. Perez is the mind behind the music, handling production as well as coming up with the melodies for the vocals.
  • They first met in a Floridian sushi bar.
  • Their songs are largely recorded in Perez' home studio which keeps costs low and allows for creative freedom.
  • The aesthetic of the band has played a large part in them finding an audience online. Both members are interested in fashion and the band rose to popularity when the 'indie sleaze' look was en vogue. Indie sleaze is a low key, affordable, retro style popular with hipsters and people such as Kate Moss, Pete Doherty and the Yeah Yeah Yeah's.
  • The band have an incredible workrate releasing over a 100 songs in their first two years. Their releases consist of a large number of short songs which makes a good fit for an attention restricted young audience with half a mind on TikTok.
  • Taking full advantage of modern technology the group largely film their videos themselves by driving around, finding an interesting spot and simply getting out of the car and filming on their phones. Since forming they have spent a long time touring which has provided plenty of opportunity to make videos. This 'road' feel compliments the high energy, kinetic style of the music.

Oftentimes, the videos feature Shwaninger dancing energetically in ran down and deserted locations which creates an eerie effect of life in a lifeless place. It seems out of place but infectious as if she's doing something she's not supposed to be doing. I doubt the band gained permission to film in such locations at such short notice which creates a sense of spontaneity and forbidden fun. The band can rock up anywhere, start playing music and having fun in a way that makes the music suitable not only for the nightclub but anywhere you might get the urge to dance.
