Details
- 'Window Shades' is a song in two parts. In the first, the singer is determined not to call a former romantic partner, only to relent in the second half and be greeted by an answerphone. The singer can't stop thinking about the person even though: "you played me".
The instrumentation is lush and the first part has a prominent, stomping drumbeat suggesting a determined march forward that descends into confusion as the song progresses into its second movement. The feeling of confusion is achieved by introducing a plethora of instruments, with each playing for only a short time. - The music video for 'Window Shades' is quite obviously set in the past,
it is in black and white, and features women dancing in vintage costumes
while a clock moves forwards and backwards, which suggests being stuck
in time.
Society may have progressed in some ways, but there are still issues that have yet to be resolved. The video shows that the titillating portrayal of women for male entertainment is an age-old phenomena.
