Details
  • 'Sunshine' is an uplifting song about how the stages of motherhood reflect the changes of the seasons. In the quieter, autumnal verses, Sol encourages her son to look at the positives by asking questions like "What are you living for? Purpose or blame?" During the lush orchestrations of the chorus, or the summer, the music comes to life. As the singer celebrates the healing power of the sun, and of her child, her sunshine, she shows birth and her ability to create new life.

The lyrics and music work in tandem to evoke a sense of two separate emotional states which are represented by extremes in weather. The quiet represents sadness and winter while the loud represents summer and happiness. When several instruments join the track during the chorus it creates a feeling of spring, of new life being born. It's a basic but prescient premise surprising only to people who've forgotten the basics
