Details
- 'Against the Moon' is about making the same mistakes and wasted time. The singer describes his failed attempt to win back a former lover in a sombre, depressing tone that could be straight from a gothic novel. He knows his actions are bad for him but repeats them anyway. He's doomed to live in the shadow of a faded love, forlorn, dejected, hopeful for a moment, only to be forlon again.
We don't have any details of the relationship. We don't know if the singer deserves his fate. We only know that he languishes in an obsession he doesn't want to escape from. Is it some form of penance? Is he a spectre haunting a former flame? The questions give the song a true sense of mystery because the answers are never revealed. What we are left with is only a feeling, a longing, raw emotion encapsulated in sound.
