- The song was popularised by the 2011 film Drive.
- This song in particular and the soundtrack for Drive in general brought the genre of synthwave to mainstream attention. The genre exploded in popularity and soon enough everyone was making synthwave. Or so it felt. According to Rate Your Music there were 77 synthwave releases in 2011 and just three years later in 2014 there were 941: an increase of 1122%.
- The featured vocalist, Lovefoxxx, is Brazilian.
- Part of what makes the production on this so good is that it's done by Guy Manuel de Homem Christo from Daft Punk. Daft Punk made electronica that was carried almost entirely by the music. Their songs barely needed lyrics and didn't suffer from the lack. Their production was clean, their sounds crisper than other electronic artists. Hip hop was dusty, trip hop felt smokier but the clear, danceable sound of a Daft Punk record allowed them to achieve mainstream success.
- The song is a good example of retro futurism. At the same time it manages to somehow sound as if it's from both the past and the future. It sounds like something you could hear in a futuristic sci-fi film or just as easily a film set in the 1980's.
- Kavinsky included the song in his 2013 debut album OutRun, which was released when he was 37.
- There is a cover version by London Grammar (2013).
