- Khruangbin and Leon Bridges made another EP, Texas Moon, released in 2022.
- Leon Bridges came up with the vocals. He was singing them inbetween recording sessions and the rest of the band came up with an instrumentation to fit the melody. They were so pleased with the results that they made it the title track of the EP.
- This song is a rare example of country soul. Other notable country soul releases are: Sturgill Simpson - A Sailors Guide to Earth; Bobbie Gentry - The Delta Sweete and Yola - Walk Through Fire.
- Leon Bridges told Texas Monthly that when he sings "Texas sun" he is talking about the sun in a literal sense and definitely not referring to himself as a son of Texas.
- "No matter where you are in Texas, it’s big sky, big sun that unifies
the state. Khruangbin and Leon are both on tour all the time, so I think
there was a relatable thing of just missing the feeling of home." (Laura Lee talking to Apple Music)
- "For this project, we set out to redefine the perception of Texas music, really blending our roots. I feel like this song is the perfect marriage of country, soul, and R&B. And historically, artists have incorporated elements of country music" (Leon Bridges talking to Apple Music)
- "We try not to have too much of an intention, because it gets in the way of what the music wants to do. If you just let the music do what it’s supposed to do, it will reveal itself. We tried to take that same approach with Leon. For us, it was opening up our world to have another person in it. But all of it feels like Texas to me." (Laura Lee, a conduit for music trying to take form, talking to Stereogum)
- "It was interesting that people very far from Texas loved it so much. I once heard the song playing in a restaurant in Bristol,
England and the servers were singing all the words." (Laura Lee in Billboard Magazine)
