  • In 2016 Cambatta confessed to killing Tupac on his track 'Tupac Murder Confession'.

  • This track in particular uses numerology to explore the deeper meanings of seemingly simple things we take for granted. We know that one is the first number and is depicted with a straight line but we might not know why. Cambatta explains that the fastest path between two points is a straight line therefore the straight line (1) is the first number, because it's the fastest, so it got there first.

The song is full of similar information. For example, the 0 represents the egg and the 1 represents the sperm, which together represent both types of gamete necessary for human reproduction. The basic numerical symbols of 1 and 0 are codified depictions of the human reproductive strategy and are also the two numbers we use to denote the binary system (11001001) that all computer languages come from. It's interesting how the character of 0 resembles an egg in appearance and the character of 1 resembles the sperm.

Human beings created a numerology that is representative of nature because mathematics is the true language of nature. Numbers and their combination, AKA mathematics, depict reality in a way that is beyond the human senses which is why a computer can 'see' reality in a way beyond our perception. For example, a machine can detect ultraviolet light when people cannot. It's mind boggling to think that such complexity comes from the simple combination of 1's and 0's.

Cambatta continues. Have you ever wondered why a clock starts with 1 then goes to 2 until it ends with 12? Why is a clock a circle? It's because time is an expression of the earth spinning (1 day or 2, 12 hour cycles) and in turn the moon orbiting the earth (1 month) and then the earth orbiting the sun (1 year). Time is circular. It doesn't start or end it keeps going. This is why the beginning of the clock is 1 and then 2, 1-2, and the end of the clock is 12, or twelve. The end is the beginning and the beginning is the end.

Who would have thought to come across such ideas in hip hop? Cambatta has combined his research of numerology with psychedelic drug experiences to create a fascinating, dense and unique body of work that is a part of a burgeoning genre I'm calling psychedelic hip hop. Killah Priest's later work would also fit into this category.
