Details
  • 'A Tiny House, In Secret Speeches, Polar Equals' is Sweet Trip's final album.
  • The group produced new music sporadically only releasing four albums in 23 years.
  • Sweet Trip members Valerie Cooper and Roberto Burgos had previously been in a romatic relationship. The couple split before the release of their third album 'You Will Never Know Why', the title referencing suicide. To further reinforce the suicide reference the album cover features a close up of a razor blade.

Roberto Burgos is the chief songwriter of Sweet Trip and was said to be depressed followed the couples breakup. It would be twelve years before the band released another album only this time the group was reduced from four members to two. Only Valerie and Roberto remained.

Even though twelve years had passed it seems as if Roberto was still infatuated with Valerie. Track 6 on Tiny House is titled 'Eave Foolery Mill Five' which is an anagram of 'Valerie, Love of My Life'. Roberto was responsible for the titling the songs.

In 2022 Valerie Cooper's husband made a post on Reddit accusing Roberto Burgos of sexually assaulting his wife in a hotel room on January 22nd of that same year. In this context the album could generously be assessed as a spurned lovers attempt to reignite a failed romance.

A sterner appraisal would be that an ex-lover callously engineered an opportunity to spend a prolonged amount of time alone with the the woman he was obsessed with. One things for sure, Roberto Burgos is the creative mind behind Sweet Trip. Even though Valerie Cooper sings the songs Burgos writes the lyrics and the album is replete with lines such as "just like we found each other" and "misty love and wonder". He wrote her a creepy, extended love letter and, unbeknowst to Cooper, got her to sing along. This dichotomy makes the album an uneasy listen. No charges have been filed against Burgos and he is, as such, innocent until proven guilty.
