• Eddie Vedder hated his step-dad so much he became obsessed with him. Many Pearl Jam songs, such as 'Alive' and 'Release', are about their relationship and 'Rearviewmirror' has the same sentiment. It's about wanting to get away from an abusive home, 'I guess it was the beatings made me wise.' 
  
  'Even Flow' is about the homeless, 'Jeremy' is about kids who are bullied into suicide. 'Rearviewmirror' features the lyric "I seem to look away, the wounds in the mirror waved, it wasn't my surface most defiled." Which is to say that the psychological damage takes longer to heal than the physical.
