• Great use of a piano sample that mixes with the drums on this chilled out track from Dilated Peoples. 'Pay Attention' isn't anything fancy, the lyrics aren't deep and meaningful or of great social significance, but it's a well put together effort that gets the head nodding while the rappers flex braggadocio rhymes with their slow flows. You don't need to reinvent the wheel for the fans of a genre to feel what you're doing. The bragging is done on a purely hip hop level. The rappers rap about their skills on the mic to big themselves up but they don't get personal on other people.
  
  In time honoured hip hop tradition the hook is scratched in by DJ Babu and this bread and butter approach sums up the track. The DJ scratches and the rappers rap over a solid beat the way it's supposed to be, the way they were taught by the old school greats. It's meat and two veg hip hop, but it's cooked to perfection.
