Come True OST (2021)
An unsettling soundtrack with rich, atmospheric pieces.
Electric Youth started dating as teenagers and have been together ever since. Their melancholic vocals and lush, '80s synths evoke a fond remembrance of the past, transforming cherished yesterdays into sound.
Fittingly, the word 'youth' is present in their name, the representations of them on the cover of their debut album Innerworld are as children, and the band found their stride during the '80s nostalgia boom of the 2010s, a period known for the neon-drenched hit series Stranger Things.
The pair work together with a natural shorthand that comes from being a besotted couple, intertwined both professionally and personally. Austin has said that when he looks at Bronwyn he remembers her as a child. This intimacy is central to their music, "and you, you are the best thing that's ever happened to me" is a remarkably sincere line from The Best Thing.
That their relationship has stood the test of time, they're nearly 40, as well as the notorious grind of the music biz is testament to their bond. This emotional core is a feature often lacking in synth music, which can prioritise pads and polished soundscapes, that sound great, but signify nothing. Electric Youth, on the other hand, offer meticulously crafted, intricate synth work with a vulnerable emotionality and genuine depthrarely found elsewhere.
